Chalk Riot And Lime Team Up To Transform World Series Parking

Game 7 of the 2019 World Series may be about to take place in Houston, TX, but it’s Washington, DC that’s already etched its place in e-scooter history.
Or at least drawn it.
In a first-of-its-kind partnership with the Capitol Riverfront Business Improvement District (BID), Lime and local artist Chelsea Ritter-Soronen from Chalk Riot teamed up to turn an unused lot near Nationals Ballpark in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood into a 3D scooter parking corral.
The Brookfield Properties-owned lot, located on the corner of First St. SE and N St. SE, was one of five designated parking zones intended to help reduce traffic and give micromobility riders unbeatable access to the World Series.
“We’re excited to partner with the Capitol Riverfront BID to create a new experience that also solves a legitimate transportation need,” said Laura Miller-Brooks, Public Affairs Director at Lime. “This corral is an interactive art piece that reimagines how we use the urban environment while also promoting safe, responsible scooter behavior.”

In August, a Texas A&M Transportation Institute study ranked the District of Columbia third on its list of most congested American cities. Drivers in the US capital lost an average of 102 hours stuck in traffic delays last year, and were expected to add to that total given the World Series crowds.
In addition to repurposing unused space for scooter parking, Lime worked closely with the District Department of Transportation to ensure that all vehicles were properly parked and maintained during the games. Staff were available at all five corrals to receive scooters, adjust improperly parked vehicles and maintain clear walkways for attendees and pedestrians.
The #Scoot2theSeries campaign comes during the release of Bloomberg Philanthropies' Asphalt Art Guide, which addresses the “growing number of cities around the world embracing art as an effective and relatively low-cost strategy to activate their streets.”
